The kick-off meeting of OLIVEPACK, funded by the PRIMA Partnership (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area), was successfully held on May 21, 2024. This project aims to develop innovative packaging solutions to extend the shelf life of low-sodium, preservative-free, naturally fermented table olives. With the collective expertise and commitment of our partners, significant advancements in food packaging are anticipated.
OLIVEPACK was showcased by its coordinator, Dr. Hayriye Unal, during the PRIMA Project Day 2024 held in Barcelona on October 22-23. The project’s vision and goal to develop innovative packaging for low-sodium, preservative-free, naturally fermented table olives were presented during a pitching session. The event provided a platform for collaboration and synergy among members of the PRIMA community, fostering connections for future impactful partnerships in sustainable and healthier food packaging.
On November 21, Prof. Mohamed Bouaziz from the University of Sfax, Tunisia, visited Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM), Türkiye, as part of the OLIVEPACK project.
The visit facilitated discussions on WP1, focusing on extracting natural antimicrobial agents from table olive wastewater using innovative valorization techniques. This meeting reinforced collaboration toward advancing sustainable solutions for table olive preservation.
The first 6-month follow-up meeting of OLIVEPACK, funded by PRIMA Partnership, was successfully completed on November 25,2024.
During the meeting, Project Coordinator Dr. Hayriye Unal presented an overview of the project’s progress, showcasing key achievements and upcoming milestones. This was followed by a presentation by Prof. Mohamed Bouaziz, who shared insights into the planned activities under WP1 and provided a detailed update on future plans.
The 12-month meeting of OLIVEPACK, funded by the PRIMA Partnership (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area), was successfully held on July 3, 2025, at Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center in Istanbul, Türkiye- the coordinating institution.
During the meeting, project partners presented an overview of the project’s progress, highlighting key achievements, upcoming milestones, and dissemination activities.
